Pesach and the Jewish Family
I had the pleasure to spend the Sunday of Chol Hamoed Pesach at Six Flags Great Adventure. Every year NCSY organizes a wonderful day at Great Adventure, complete with kosher for Pesach food available at the park. Being at the park and seeing all those Jewish families made me remember why I love being Jewish, and that is…family.
The Jewish family is all about the next generation. As I walked around the theme park watching all those beautiful Jewish families I was reminded of the Siyum HaShas that took place around ten years ago. At the time I was working for NCSY in Detroit and our chapter sent a group of public school teens to attend the Siyum Hashas. When the group returned I asked them what they thought of the experience. One girl turned to me and said, “It was unbelievable!” I asked her what was unbelievable about it and she replied that she had never seen that many station wagons and minivans in her life.
As Jews our life is our children. The recent holiday of Pesach reminds us of that. The Pesach Seder is geared to center around and engage our children. Clearly, passing on our traditions and history, as exhibited by the Pesach Seder, is only means for Judaism and the Jews to continue and thrive.
Thats why regionals is so amazing at least on the westcoast to see so many jewish kids in one room enjoying beign jewish. Its an amzing sight and experince
