A glossary sounds good. About tisha b’av- do we not sit on chairs starting at sundown or starting in the morning? I am going to be in an evening class when Tisha B’av starts. Do I need to sit on the floor or stand in class?
The glossary has actually been an idea I’ve been working on for the NCSY web site - people can send me Yiddish, Hebrew or “yeshivish” words they’ve heard but don’t understand. I’ll translate and explain them online. You guys want to get this project started? Email me any words or phrases you’ve been wondering about at .

alternatively, you can use a chair which is less than 1 foot off the ground, these are considered ok as well....and of course hopefully you will be allowed to sit on chairs by then
isn’t it more relaxing to lie down than to sit? and how do u eat beakfast and lunch? do u just sit on the floor? can u sit on the floor, or lay on it? and could u lay on a couch or a bunch of chairs that wer next to eachother?
for one tisha b’av is a fast day...so eating is somewhat of a non-issue...as far as sitting down, it’s permissible to sit on low chairs(less than 12 inches high)...you can sit or lay on the floor...the halachos of tisha b’av are roughly those of a mourner during shiva...and it’s also important to point out that the prohibition of sitting on chairs(only) ends at chatzos(midday) and sitting in chairs after chatzos is permitted.
oh i didnt realise that, before last year i only knew of one or 2 of the fast days, i know i kenw of yom kippur tho, and now i know of the i before purim, what is the other fast day? and i dont really know the laws of shivvah very well.
and hopefully you won’t have occaision to know them well...fast days are(from rosh hashannah)...tzom gedaliah(3rd of tishrei-day after r’’h), yom kippur(10 tishrei), asarah b’teves(10 teves), ta’anis esther(erev purim-13 adar), fast of first born(erev pesach-14 nissan), shiva asar b’tammuz(17 tammuz-this evening is 1 tammuz) and tisha b’av(9 Av)...all fasts except tisha b’av an yom kippur are from dawn to dusk and only eating and drinking are assur...y’’k and 9 av are 25 hr fasts, also assur are bathing, wearing leather shoes, marital relations, using perfumes and the like…
