A "Hairy" Raising Experience

A “Hairy” raising experience experience. For those of you who may be thinking a hairy experience means a scary experience, you are obviously not alumni of NCSY whose kids have become more Yeshivish than you are! Hairy is the slang in Yeshiva speak today for acting like a non Yeshivish person. To my kids (who grew up thinking an NCSY Shabbaton was normal and home for Shabbos abnormal) their parents are Hairies.

I remember thinking my parents were from a different world and I’m sure they thought the same about their parents, and don’t misunderstand me, my kids are very respectful to us and I love my parents. It’s just an eye opening experience when you turn into your parents in the eyes of your kids!

As Hashem continues to open our eyes on a daily basis in the economy, in India in Israel and elsewhere; let’s not forget to appreciate the miracle of our kids and even more of our parents who put up with our slang and attitudes.

This Chanukah lets appreciate the blessings we have in our families and communities. Lets all share the special gleam that our parents as grandparents get to enjoy from their unique perspective. As they always said, just wait until you have kids of your own.... Thank G-d!!
